Noa Noa II

Gavin Chilcott

All my rugs start out on paper, that is the process ……it is without exception always exciting to have an image transformed into a luxury item!

Gavin Chilcott is a master of the decorative. Confidently applying signature motifs across multi media, ceramic’s, furniture, recycled paper, canvas and textile to convey the refined, identifiable Chilcott aesthetic.

Our first collaboration with Gavin was in early 1989. The artist required three rugs to be part of his installation at the Auckland City Gallery title Setting The Table. Symbols involving sheaves, scrolls and amphora adorn the runner shaped rugs beautifully positioned with purpose to complete the artists overall scheme.

His Noa Noa rug series started in 2006. A recycled Noa Noa paper shopping bag is the foundation to Noa Noa II composition which to the artist had strong qualities to begin with. Without meaning apart for a decorative value other motifs are added. Swiss artist Johan Jakob Hauswirth’s silhouette of a perfect horse for example and also, the key motifs.

This beautiful rug exudes a unique and refined aesthetic that only Chilcott can deliver.
